Space planning — a critical component of interior design
Space planning is an element of the Schematic Design phase of the interior design process. This important step brings together the function of the room with the visual enhancements created by the finishes, fixtures, and furnishings you choose. Most rooms today are multifunctional. That purpose in itself helps to define the style of the room. For example, if a home has both a living room and a family or gathering room, the living room is likely to be designed more formally than the family room, with the expectation that it will be occupied primarily by visitors.
Space planning results in a floor plan
Space planning results in the creation of a floor plan which is then used as a map for the placement of furnishings and accessories. We may begin with some rough sketches as we discuss your vision for the room, but the end result will be a well-documented, detailed floor plan that denotes window and door placements, electrical outlets, plumbing supply lines and fixtures for example.
